Breast Lifting (Mastopexy)

Many women dream of the ideal firm and sexy breasts. Many things can cause breasts to sag and can change the shape and firmness of the breasts: lowered skin elasticity, weight loss, gravity, pregnancy and breast-feeding. We recommend breast lifting operations for women who are satisfied with their breast size, but have sagging breasts. During this operation, the breasts are lifted and regain their youthful contour. A combined operation of mastopexy and breast augmentation can also be performed.

Am I a good candidate for breast lifting?

We recommend breast lifting if:

• You are satisfied with the size of your breasts, but a shape correction is desired
• Your breasts are sagging and short in elasticity and breast tissue
• The nipples and areolas are pointed down, especially if the nipples and areolas are lower than the breast crease.

Sometimes, the type of breasts is genetically determined. A breast lifting operation can be performed at any age, although it is usually only recommended after the complete maturation and formation of the breasts.

During consultation, you will tell the plastic surgeon about what shape of breasts you would like to have, and things that you would like to change. It will help the surgeon understand, summarize your desires, and decide if the operation suits you.

Why do you need a consultation?

Our GK Clinic specialists will examine your breasts, consider the size and shape of the breasts, the quality of your skin, and the condition and location of the nipples and areolas. It is very important to inform the doctor if you have had any other breast operations or mammography.

The plastic surgeon will inform you about all the advantages and disadvantages of the operation. You will also tell him about your desired size and shape, and the new location of the nipples. If you decide to choose both mastopexy and breast augmentation, the plastic surgeon will individually choose the best implants for your particular needs.

You should also mention what medications you take, past operations, or if you have abnormal blood pressure or other diseases, for example, diabetes mellitus, thyroid pathology, etc. You should not forget to talk about taking any drugs, which can diminish blood coagulation and any allergies.

Does this operation require any special preparation?

You might need to undergo a mammographic or ultrasound breast examination. It will decide your doctor during the consultation.

You should lower the number of cigarettes if you smoke. It is also recommended that you not use Aspirin or other drugs that might diminish blood coagulation.

How is breast lifting performed?

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. The duration is 2-4 hours. After the excess skin is removed, the nipple along with areola is moved to a new location and the new shape of the breast is formed. If the areola is too big, we can reform it to a smaller size. If breast augmentation is performed during the same operation, breasts implants are placed accordingly. You will have to spend 2-3 days after the operation under the observation our GK Clinic specialists.

 

What kind of breast implants can I choose?

What is the recovery time for breast lifting?

You are usually able to go back to work in a week. Hard physical work and sports are not recommended for 4-6 weeks. The plastic surgeon will fit you a special bra, which should be worn for approximately 6 weeks after the operation.

Are the scars easily observed?

The sutures are removed after one week. The scars keep fading for one year after the operation. In helping to fade the scars, the plastic surgeon will recommend some special procedures for you. Some laser procedures can also be helpful one year after the operation.
