Endovenous laser treatment
In 2007 GK Clinic was the first clinic in Lithuania which has adopted the world’s most modern leg vein varicose treatment by using the endovascular laser. Over the past years, more than 7,000 successful vein surgery operations were carried out. Extensive experience and patients’ well-earned well-deserved confidence has been truthfully earned.
What is Endovenous laser treatment of leg varicose veins?
Endovenous laser treatment is the most modern type of leg varicose vein treatment based on the sophisticated laser technology. During this surgery, laser energy, with the help of a unique optic fiber, erodes the walls of the vein from the inside, thus the vein is being destroyed. This progressive technology is already used for 10 years in the world. There are more and more “newest” and “modern” methods of endovascular treatments of varicose veins in Lithuania. The diversity of services offered, makes it rather difficult to cope with even for experienced professionals, not to speak about the people without medical education.
What do you need to know when choosing a laser treatment of varicose veins in the legs?
Laser therapy success depends not only on the professional performing these operations (although it is certainly very important), but also, on the equipment used to accomplish the technological operations. You cannot divide treatment into traditional surgery and laser treatment. There are very different kinds and types of vein lasers, as well as several types of optic fiber, which play a very important role in the overall result of the operation and the patient’s wellbeing after surgery. The first-generation vein lasers have a wavelength ranging from 800 to 980 nm, they have been introduced since 2000ies, but they failed to provide positive long-term results. Relapses, bad post-operative patient wellbeing, necessity of general or regional anesthesia, medical complications, all of this did not satisfy the medical personnel, and in 2006 the second generation of vein lasers, or 1470 nm. Wavelength lasers were invented, which are successfully used so far.
Our clinic, is one of the first in the world, which began using this exact, second generation of laser, for endovenous laser treatments. As technology evolves, a new optical fiber ring was invented, which allowed to minimize postoperative discomfort for the patient. Judging by our personal experience we can say that if the patient has undergone laser vein surgery with optical the new optical fiber ring, after the operation, he feels tens of times better, than the patient who had the same operation with the same laser, but with a simple optical fiber. Therefore, in 2008, GK clinic refused to use simple optical fiber and was the first in Lithuania, which started using optical fiber ring.
The claim that all of the lasers are the same and the wavelength of the laser is only a commercial trick is absolutely false. The same is true for optical fiber. Older technology is cheaper, and therefore the transaction cost of the surgery is much lower. However, everyone can decide himself whether to save the expense or to have better quality surgery. There is also an opinion, that the laser vein treatment is effective only in the initial stages of the disease, when only capillaries can be seen, or when veins are very thin. Again, this is absolutely not true. Laser vein treatment is good for ~ 95% of patients who have conditions from isolated capillaries to tropic ulcers.
GK clinic uses 1470 nm laser with the most modern optical fiber ring.
What is unique about the GK clinic’s endovascular laser leg vein treatment?
GK clinic is using the most advanced laser technology, which enables us to produce great results and keep the patient’s wellbeing.
What are advantages of endovenous laser treatment over the standard surgery?
- Good clinical effect (100% of patients are treated in a single procedure).
- Excellent cosmetic effect (no cuts – no seams – no scars).
- The surgery is performed under local anesthesia (the patient can go home immediately after the operation).
- No special patient preparation.
- Easy postoperative period (patient fell almost no pain, minimal bruising or swelling of the feet).
- The patient does not lose the ability to work (he can walk and do light physical work immediately after the operation).
Why do you need a consultation? Do you need special preparation before laser leg vein surgery?
Prior to the treatment, our specialist will review your medical history, examine your veins, determine their diameter, examine how the deep veins are working and will inspect the condition of your venous valves. All of the patients have an ultrasound double scanning test before the surgery.
You should tell our doctor what leg vein treatment have you had. The doctor will evaluate the condition of your leg veins and will recommend you the proper treatment: endovascular laser leg vein treatment, surface leg vein capillaries correction, intense pulse light, vein sclerotherapy, vein surgical treatment, or a combination of these methods.
How do you know whether this treatment is right for you?
Ask our doctors. If you have any questions, please call our GK Clinic Tel. +370 5 255 33 53 to arrange for a private doctor’s consultation. After a brief examination the doctor will decide if this treatment is right for you.
How is endovascular laser leg varicose vein therapy implemented?
During the operation large varicose or small subcutaneous varicose vein is punctured. Then the lasers optical fiber is inserted in the varicose vein through the puncture. With the help of ultrasonic control, chilled anesthetic liquid is injected, an “anesthetic bag” is created around the vein, which, in addition to pain relief, protects surrounding tissue from thermal effects. The laser beam destroys the vein and the “locks”, or collapses the varicose vein throughout its length, as the doctor is slowly pulling out the optical fiber. At a later period, the destroyed vein is absorbed.
What other treatment methods may be combined with leg vein laser treatment?
Together with the endovascular laser varicose leg vein treatment, you can successfully go for surface leg venous capillary correction laser treatment, intense pulse light, or sclerotherapy.
How does the recovery process look like? Will you need special care?
Due to the fact that endovenous laser treatment is performed under local anesthesia, the subcutaneous veins are pulled up the stem, without damage to the surrounding tissues – this reduces the likelihood of postoperative pain, causes minimal bruising. The patient can leave the hospital immediately after surgery and even can do light physical work at the same day. Compression therapy is prescribed for 2 weeks, and anticoagulants are prescribed for 6 days after the surgery.
